Older dogs may no longer want the pace, distance or stimulation they enjoyed when they were younger. Hawkes Walks keeps these outings gentle and dog-led, allowing time for a relaxed plod, plenty of sniffing and the simple pleasure of being outdoors.
Where a dog can comfortably get into the vehicle, they can be taken to a quieter location with fewer people and less noise. These walks are limited to 30 minutes. If travelling is no longer comfortable, a 30-minute wee break and garden visit can be offered instead.
Care that adapts as dogs grow older
A successful outing for an elderly dog may look very different from a standard exercise walk. Comfort, choice and enjoyment take priority over distance. Some days may call for a quiet stroll; on others, remaining at home for companionship and a garden break may be the kinder option.
